Victory Chimes 100th Anniversary Cookbook Now Available

cookbookThe Victory Chimes Cookbook is back by popular demand. Our first edition has been sold out for a couple of years, so we produced a 100th Anniversary edition with all the old favorites from the first edition, plus many new dishes that we’ve used aboard, on the dock or at home. The cookbook has been expanded to 182 pages with easier to find recipes. You’ll still find all the ship's history and notes scattered throughout the pages of recipes. Great illustrations, bits of nautical lore, poems, songs and quotes of the sea make this a little different from your ordinary cookbook. But, the best part are the recipes that have come from our galley via the Seven Seas. We've included the Edwin and Maud 100th Anniversary Chesapeake Bay Boil featured at the ship's centennial birthday celebration, as well as our old standbys like Mary’s Lobster Chowder. There are some great new dishes of Chef Pam’s including the super secret Cheeseburger Soup that she had to smuggle off Sugar Loaf Mountain. You’ll find a variety of easy to prepare dishes from Yankee New England, Deep South Traditional or exotic Thai and Italian favorites. In short they represent the culinary favorites of the passengers and crews who have sailed the Victory Chimes. You could entertain for months from this book covering everything from soup to nuts and never repeat yourself. See why it has been one of our best selling ship's store items. Always a great gift!

Limited Edition Artist Print

The big off season news for us came when we commissioned a painting of the Victory Chimes, which we used to produce an Artist signed limited edition print that we are very excited about. The print depicts the Victory Chimes on a Starboard tack with "A bone in her teeth" racing across Penobscot bay with the Camden hills in the background. We had been looking for the right artist to paint the schooner for several years and finally settled on Don Scafidi, a noted Maritime Artist and fellow sailor. Don completed the painting of the Victory Chimes over a three week period while his Ketch "Blew Max" was anchored in Boca Grande, Florida. Don was on his way to Jamaica for a three year cruise and painting assignment for several Galleries he paints for. He was in Boca Grande "trying to reason with hurricaneclick to enlarge click to enlarge season" when, as fate would have it, we ran into him. We were both familiar with his work including a commission by the Galveston Historical Society to produce a print of the Barque Elissa which Kip helps sail in the winter. We think you will agree that Don captured the essence of the Victory Chimes. The edition was completed in November '96 and we caught up with Don in Key West where he numbered and signed them in a little hotel on Duval Street just before the weather cleared enough for him to shove off for Jamaica. Scafidi's other Limited Edition print commissions include the battleship Alabama for the Mobile, Alabama Battleship Commission; the schooner Glenn L. Swetman for the Biloxi Seafood Industry Museum; and the schooner Governor Stone for the Apalachicola Maritime Museum. He has also done several paintings of the J-boats Endeavor and Shamrock which dominated the America's Cup in the 1930's. His original oil paintings are owned by marine enthusiasts and marine museums worldwide and are available through Gaurisco Gallery in Washington, D.C., the Fine Arts Gallery of New Orleans and the Madison Gallery of Atlanta.
